Terms of Use
The short version: Joe Bot is a free hobby app that connects you to AI services you sign up for yourself. It’s provided as it is, AI answers can be wrong, and you’re responsible for your own accounts, keys, costs and what you send. The details are below, in plain language.
About these terms
These terms cover the Joe Bot app and its pages on jp3.dev, made by “jp3” (“I”, “me”), an independent developer. By installing or using Joe Bot you agree to them. If you don’t, please don’t use it. How information is handled is covered separately in the privacy policy.
What Joe Bot is
Joe Bot is a chat client. It doesn’t provide any AI itself: it sends your messages from your device straight to the AI services you choose (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, OpenRouter, Blackbird.AI) and shows you what they send back. There is no jp3 server in between. Joe Bot is free to use and has no ads or in-app purchases.
Your accounts, keys and costs
- You need your own account and API key with each service you want to use. Your relationship with each service is between you and them: their terms, usage rules and prices apply, not mine.
- Those services may charge you for what you send, including long conversations, attachments and web search. Joe Bot doesn’t control or limit those costs, so keep an eye on your usage on the provider’s own dashboard.
- Keep your keys secret. If you think one has leaked, revoke it with the provider that issued it.
AI answers can be wrong
AI models can be inaccurate, out of date, biased or simply make things up, including sources and links. Nothing Joe Bot shows you is professional, medical, legal, financial or safety advice. Check anything that matters. Fact-check ratings (Safe, Caution, Warning) come from the Blackbird.AI Compass service, not from me, and are an aid to your judgement, not a verdict. The personalities (Joe Bot, Adri, Jace, Luc) only change the style of the replies.
What you send and receive
You’re responsible for what you send and for how you use what comes back. Don’t send anything you have no right to share, and follow the rules of the services you connect to. I don’t see your messages and claim no rights in them; who owns the answers is up to your provider’s terms.
Acceptable use
Don’t use Joe Bot to break the law, to break a provider’s usage rules, or to attack or overload the services it connects to.
Saved sessions, backups and sync
- Saved sessions and settings live on your device. You’re responsible for keeping your own backups; uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes them.
- Sync is optional. If you turn it on, sessions are encrypted with a passphrase only you know before they leave your device. I can’t recover that passphrase and can’t read your files; if you forget it, the cloud copies can’t be read.
- The services you sync through (Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud, your own WebDAV or SFTP server) are third parties with their own terms.
- I’m not responsible for lost, overwritten or conflicting data, though Joe Bot is designed to keep a copy rather than overwrite silently.
Availability and changes
Joe Bot is a hobby project. I may change it, pause it, remove features or stop distributing it at any time. The services Joe Bot connects to also change their models, prices and interfaces, which can break parts of it for a while. I’ll try to help if you write to code@jp3.dev, but I can’t promise support or a response time.
No warranty
To the extent the law allows, Joe Bot is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including that it will be accurate, uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose.
Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, I’m not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from using Joe Bot or relying on what an AI service says, including charges from AI providers and lost data. Where liability can’t be excluded, it’s limited to the amount you paid me for Joe Bot, which for a free app is nothing. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they apply only as far as the law permits.
Open-source components
Joe Bot is built with open-source software, each part under its own licence.
Age
Joe Bot isn’t directed at children. You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live and to have accounts with the services you connect; those services set their own minimum ages.
Stopping
You can stop using Joe Bot at any time by uninstalling it. I can stop distributing or supporting it at any time.
Changes to these terms
If I change these terms I’ll update this page and the date above, and for a significant change I’ll say so in the release notes. Using Joe Bot after a change means you accept the new terms.
